New Delhi: India’s Vikram lander, stationed on the moon following the successful soft landing, performed an experimental task, ISRO said.

The Vikram Lander has successfully ‘soft landed again’ exceeding the limits of mission’s task, NDTV reported.

The space agency said that the lander successfully completed a ‘hop experiment’.

‘Vikram Lander has exceeded Chandrayaan-3 mission objectives and successfully completed a "hop experiment,’ said the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

After it was given a command, the lander fired its engines, elevating itself by about 40 cm as expected.

Then it ‘landed safely at a distance of 30-40 cm away,’ ISRO reportedly said.

Elevating and soft landing by the lander are samples for return from the Moon during human missions, according to ISRO.

When Vikram lander touched down on the Moon days ago India became the fourth country in the world to achieve the feat alongside being the first to make it to the lunar South Pole.
