Killing mosquitos at the site of theft has put a Chinese burglar in trouble. The police used the DNA found in the dead mosquito's blood to identify the thief.

The police extracted blood samples and sent them for analysis. After almost 19 days, the tests confirmed that the DNA belonged to someone with the surname Chao. The investigators soon identified a suspect with a criminal record. He is linked to three other thefts.

A report in Global Times said the theft took place in Fuzhou, in Fujian province, on June 11.

Cops found that the thief entered the apartment from the balcony because the door was closed from the inside. They also found blood stains on the wall. South China Morning Post quoted police saying several valuable items were stolen.

The police decided to use the blood smear on the wall because the property was freshly painted and unlikely to have been left behind by the occupants.

The thief is also said to have spent the night at the house because the police found egg shells and noodles in the kitchen. He also used a blanket in the house owner's bedroom. The team also recovered a used mosquito coil and two dead mosquitos.
