US spending on Iran war estimated at $900 million a day: report
text_fieldsThe United States is estimated to be spending about $900 million per day on the war with Iran, with total costs reaching around $3.7 billion in the first 100 hours of the conflict, according to a new study.
The analysis by the Washington-based think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies said most of the spending is driven by the cost of munitions as the United States uses advanced weapons and stealth bombers in operations against Iran. The findings were reported by Al Jazeera.
Researchers Mark Cancian and Chris Park said only a small portion of the estimated costs has been budgeted. They estimated that about $891.4 million per day had already been allocated, while roughly $3.5 billion of the total costs remain unbudgeted.
The conflict entered its seventh day on Friday, and the report warned that the US Department of Defense may soon need to request additional funding to cover the unplanned expenses.
The researchers said securing additional funding could become a political challenge for the administration of Donald Trump, particularly as public debate over the war intensifies.
They noted that Americans are already facing rising living costs and inflation, along with higher gas and fuel prices linked to the conflict. According to the report, this could reduce public support for the war and create divisions within Trump’s political base, which has often backed his promise to avoid foreign conflicts.
The study said its estimates relied partly on analysis from the Congressional Budget Office because the United States Department of Defense has released limited operational details.
Meanwhile, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the bombardment of Iran could increase significantly, with more fighter squadrons, expanded defensive capabilities, and more frequent bomber operations expected.
