Female drivers in the UAE are more cautious than men in driving safely and following road rules, according to a report released by the UAE Road Safety Monitor on Monday.

Women are less likely to cause road accidents than men, shows the statistics. The report also found that women who drive safely within the speed limit often followed traffic rules strictly while driving.

"Women drivers often don't receive due appreciation for their driving behaviour. Gender prejudice still seems to play a role; however, an overall, more careful attitude can be observed while analysing the behaviour of UAE lady drivers in most of the critical dimensions of safe driving," said Thomas Edelmann, founder and managing director of Road Safety UAE.

According to the survey last year, women were less caught up in accidents compared to men in 2020 and witnessed a four per cent decline in road mishaps by women over the six months. A total of 71 per cent of women indicates properly while changing tracks, taking an exit, entering a highway or turning at a junction. While male's road safety cautiousness showed 65 per cent.

The importance of using seat belts was better understood by women at 94 percent, than men, 91 percent. 36 percent women drivers and 23 percent male drivers never use mobile phones while on road.

The UAE Road Safety Monitor collected the data over six years of analyzing and research.
