Prime Minister Modi later said on X that he had gone to the airport to welcome Sheikh Mohamed, describing the visit as a reflection of the importance the UAE leader places on relations between the two countries. Photographs shared by Modi showed the two leaders greeting each other warmly on arrival.
In a departure from standard protocol, Modi personally received the UAE President at Palam Air Base. Sheikh Mohamed was accorded a red carpet welcome, after which he attended a cultural program featuring dance performances accompanied by traditional musical instruments.
The two leaders were seen walking together and holding hands as they proceeded to the meeting venue. Bilateral talks are expected to focus on strengthening strategic, economic and cultural cooperation between the UAE and India.
Sheikh Mohamed is accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister; Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs; and Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Adviser to the UAE President, along with several ministers and senior officials, according to the state news agency WAM.
The visit follows a series of recent exchanges between senior leaders of the two countries, including the visit of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India in September 2024 and the visit of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in April last year.
