Dubai: Preparing for Ramadan 2024, the leaders of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have demonstrated compassion and mercy by pardoning 2,592 prisoners, granting them a fresh start in life.

In a gesture of goodwill, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered the release of 735 prisoners, accompanied by the noble decision to cover all fines and penalties imposed on them. This compassionate act aims to alleviate the burdens faced by these individuals and facilitate their reintegration into society.

Following suit, Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, pardoned 314 prisoners from punitive and correctional institutions in Ajman.

Similarly, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai, has extended clemency to 691 prisoners of diverse nationalities.

Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, contributed to this humanitarian effort by pardoning 484 prisoners from punitive and correctional institutions. The decisions of the Emirati rulers emphasize the importance of forgiveness and social integration in the UAE's justice system.

Furthering the spirit of mercy, Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, a Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, pardoned 368 prisoners.

The selection of prisoners for pardon was based on their demonstrated good conduct and behaviour, reflecting the UAE's emphasis on rehabilitation and redemption.

Pardoning prisoners during significant Islamic occasions is a longstanding tradition in the UAE, rooted in the principles of compassion and forgiveness.

This year's pardon echoes the generosity exhibited in 2023 when UAE leaders pardoned 3,400 prisoners ahead of Ramadan, commemorating the 52nd National Day. Such acts of clemency serve as a testament to the UAE's enduring commitment to justice and compassion. These acts of mercy offer individuals a chance at redemption and reinforce the UAE's status as a beacon of humanity and tolerance.
