UAE condemns drone attack near Barakah nuclear plant
text_fieldsThe UAE has condemned what it described as a terrorist drone attack targeting an electricity generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Al Dhafra.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the drone entered the country’s territory from the western border direction. Authorities confirmed there were no injuries and no impact on radiation safety levels at the facility.
In a statement, the ministry described the incident as a dangerous escalation and an unacceptable act of aggression that directly threatens the UAE’s security.
The ministry said attacks targeting peaceful nuclear energy facilities violate international law, the UN Charter and humanitarian principles because of the risks posed to civilians, the environment and regional stability.
It added that international standards and agreements, including principles and resolutions of the International Atomic Energy Agency, stress the importance of protecting peaceful nuclear facilities from hostile acts and military threats.
The UAE said it would not tolerate threats to its security or sovereignty and reserved the right to respond through diplomatic and military means in accordance with international law.
The ministry also condemned attacks on civilian and vital infrastructure and called for an immediate halt to hostilities.
