An Indian businessman and healthcare entrepreneur based in the UAE has announced a Dh1 million humanitarian assistance package for victims of the recent Emirates Road crash that killed seven workers and injured nine others.

According to Indian media, Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, Chairman and CEO of Burjeel Holdings, introduced the support program to provide financial assistance to affected families and injured survivors.

The package allocates Dh700,000 to the families of the seven deceased workers, with each family set to receive Dh100,000.

A further Dh180,000 has been earmarked to help injured survivors cover medical treatment and rehabilitation expenses.

According to Indian media reports, the program also includes Dh70,000 for emergency travel and accommodation expenses for relatives and Dh50,000 to support the educational needs of children from affected families.

Dr Shamsheer said the initiative was intended to provide relief to families who lost loved ones while supporting those recovering from injuries.

He added that priority would be given to households with young dependants who may face long-term financial challenges following the loss of a family breadwinner.

According to Indian media, the program is being coordinated with the Indian Consulate in Dubai to facilitate support for affected Indian families, while assistance will be extended to all victims regardless of nationality.

The Indian Consulate had earlier said its officials visited injured workers in hospital and were working with local authorities to provide support.

The accident involved a minibus carrying employees of a Dubai-based technical services company. Preliminary investigations indicated that the vehicle collided with the rear of a truck that had stopped on the road because of a technical fault.

Dubai Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
