Abu Dhabi: Authorities have announced the commencement of rehabilitation work on the North Runway at Zayed International Airport. This initiative is part of the Building Better Airports campaign and aims to address the increasing air traffic demands, enhance capacity and improve operational efficiency.

The project, overseen by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), will continue until it meets the necessary criteria for final approval and operational commencement. The GCAA is focused on ensuring the project aligns with the growing needs of air travel and enhances overall customer experience.

The Zayed International Airport now offers a storage facility for transit passengers to improve efficiency and convenience for travellers. This service allows those on long-haul flights with layovers in the UAE to explore the country without the burden of carrying their luggage.

Formerly known as Abu Dhabi International Airport, the facility was renamed Zayed International Airport on February 9 in honour of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The renaming coincided with the official opening ceremony of the new Terminal A, which became operational on November 1, according to the Abu Dhabi Government Media Office.

The new Terminal A is designed to provide a luxurious and efficient experience for travelers, marking a significant upgrade in the airport’s infrastructure and services. This development is expected to play a crucial role in accommodating the future growth of air traffic and enhancing the airport’s status as a major international hub.
