Indians visiting or living in UAE urged to check medical insurance cover
text_fieldsIndian nationals visiting or living in the UAE have been urged to ensure their medical insurance covers healthcare expenses and emergency repatriation to India, following cases of patients facing bills they could not afford.
The Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of India in Dubai and the Northern Emirates issued the advisory on Tuesday, October 27.
The missions said unexpected illnesses and medical emergencies had left some Indian nationals with substantial bills and inadequate insurance coverage.
These expenses were sometimes “beyond the capacity of the patient or their family members to bear”, the advisory said.
Indians travelling to the UAE for tourism or visits should obtain appropriate medical insurance before departure. Policies should provide cashless treatment facilities and cover the cost of medical repatriation to India in an unforeseen emergency.
The missions also urged Indians living in the UAE on employment visas, along with their dependants, to review their existing policies.
Residents should verify that their coverage is sufficient for medical expenses in the UAE and medical repatriation to India, they said.
