Dubai completes Dh277M drainage network to prevent flood damage

Dubai Municipality has announced the completion of a Dh277 million sewerage and rainwater drainage network in Nad Al Sheba 3, marking a significant milestone in the emirate’s broader Dh30 billion Tasreef project aimed at overhauling its water drainage infrastructure by 2033.
The newly completed network includes 24km of pipeline infrastructure, with 11km dedicated to connecting households to the main sewerage system. A new pumping station has also been installed, with the capacity to process 4,000 litres of water per second. The system is further supported by a 31km gravity-based drainage pipeline designed to ensure operational efficiency during periods of heavy rainfall and reduce flood risk.
“This project is part of Dubai Municipality’s strategic efforts to develop and deliver world-class infrastructure that keeps pace with Dubai’s ambitions for global leadership and urban sustainability", said Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality.
The Nad Al Sheba 3 network represents the first major achievement under the Tasreef project, approved last year by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, following record flooding in April 2024. Once fully implemented, the Tasreef plan will connect all areas of Dubai to a unified sewerage and drainage system designed to support the city’s long-term climate resilience.
The development also forms part of a larger Dh80 billion sewerage upgrade initiative aimed at improving public health standards and ensuring efficient water management across the emirate.
