ADNOC to build largest 5G network with e&
text_fieldsADNOC and e&, UAE’s tech-telco group, announced a strategic project to create the largest private 5G wireless network in the energy industry, covering 11,000 square kilometres. The 5G network will provide high-bandwidth connectivity for ADNOC’s onshore and offshore operations, facilitating advanced AI integration, cost reduction through automation, improved efficiency, emission minimization and enhanced safety.
Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO, said, “This landmark project with e& is a milestone step in ADNOC’s journey to become the world’s most AI-enabled energy company.”
UAE aims to provide secure, reliable and responsible energy by investing in cutting-edge connectivity across the operations.
“As we grow our diversified energy portfolio, this strategic partnership will generate value and enable us to make faster, smarter decisions, from the control room to the boardroom, future-proof our business and keep our people and the environment safe”, added Al Jaber.
Scheduled for completion in 2025, the project is expected to generate $1.5 billion (AED5.5 billion) in value during its first five years.
The 5G network will transmit data from sensors in over 12,000 wells and pipelines to autonomous control rooms, allowing real-time recommendations to extend asset lifespan and ensure field safety. It will also enable the digitalization of wellheads and provide comprehensive visibility over operations, boosting productivity across ADNOC’s value chain.
Jassem Mohamed Bu Ataba Alzaabi, Chairman of e&, highlighted the significance of the collaboration. The e&’s collaboration with ADNOC will enable the creation of a cutting-edge private 5G network underscoring our dedication to harnessing technology and powering sustainable and intelligent transformation in the energy sector.
“With connectivity being the backbone of technological advancements, we’re leveraging our expertise as a pioneer in network and AI innovations to drive breakthroughs in the energy sector and spur progress and success across industries”, said Alzaabi.
The project aims to position ADNOC as a leader in AI-enabled energy production, ensuring secure, reliable, and responsible energy delivery while driving technological innovation and sustainability in the industry.
