Abu Dhabi: The United Arab Emirates on Thursday said operations at the Habshan gas facility have been temporarily suspended after debris from intercepted missiles fell on the site, while strongly condemning Iran over what it described as a “terrorist attack”.

In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attack targeted the Habshan gas facility and the Bab field but was successfully intercepted by the country’s air defence systems, with no injuries reported.

The Ministry termed the incident a “dangerous escalation” and a violation of international law, asserting that the UAE “reserves its full right to take all necessary measures” to protect its sovereignty, national security and interests.

It further warned that targeting critical infrastructure and oil facilities poses a direct threat to regional stability and global energy security.

A day earlier, the UAE had cautioned that strikes on energy infrastructure linked to Iran’s South Pars gas field, which extends into Qatar’s territory, represent a serious escalation with wider implications for regional and global security.

The Ministry noted that such attacks could have severe environmental consequences and put civilians, navigation routes, and vital industrial and urban facilities at risk.

Reiterating its stance, the UAE stressed that critical infrastructure must not be targeted under any circumstances and called for adherence to international law to safeguard regional stability and security.
