World’s largest cooling system maintains 22°C to 24°C at Grand Mosque
text_fieldsOne of the world’s largest cooling systems is operating at the Grand Mosque in Makkah to keep worshippers comfortable during peak crowds and high summer temperatures.
The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque said the integrated system has a capacity of about 155,000 refrigeration tons.
It maintains temperatures inside the Grand Mosque between 22°C and 24°C, covering prayer areas, service facilities and courtyards used by worshippers and Umrah pilgrims.
The system also treats and purifies the air with an efficiency rate of up to 95 per cent, using advanced filtration and air-handling technologies to support a clean and healthy environment.
The cooling network covers nearly 1.5 million square metres, distributing cooled air evenly across the mosque and surrounding areas.
The authority said the system reflects continued investment in modern engineering, operations and maintenance to meet the needs of rising numbers of worshippers while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.
