Saudi FM meets Trump, El-Sisi at Gaza peace summit in Egypt
text_fieldsSaudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan held separate meetings on Monday with US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi during a Gaza peace summit in Sharm El-Sheikh.
The summit brought together global and regional leaders to discuss a 20-point US-led peace plan aimed at turning the current truce in Gaza into a lasting settlement. Participants signed a joint declaration in support of maintaining the ceasefire and resuming political negotiations.
The developments followed the release of all 20 remaining hostages held by Hamas since the Oct. 7, 2023 attacks on Israel, in exchange for Israel freeing 1,968 Palestinian prisoners.
The US proposal envisions the creation of an independent Palestinian state after a transitional period involving reform of the Palestinian Authority. Earlier Monday, Trump addressed the Israeli parliament, where Israel’s government formally endorsed the US peace plan but maintained opposition to Palestinian statehood.
Prince Faisal attended the summit on behalf of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, representing Saudi Arabia’s position in support of diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region.
