Saudi Arabia said its air defences intercepted and destroyed several drones that attempted to target oil facilities in the Eastern Province on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Defence blamed Iran-backed militias operating from Iraqi territory for the attacks.

Defence Ministry spokesman Maj Gen Turki Al-Malki said the latest attempts were launched from Iraq by Iran-backed militias.

He said Saudi Arabia has the right to defend itself and protect its critical infrastructure.

Maj Gen Al-Malki added that the Kingdom reserves the right to respond at a time and place of its choosing.

In a separate statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the continued drone attacks against oil facilities in the Eastern Province.

The ministry said Saudi Arabia remains committed to protecting its security and sovereignty and has the legal right to take all necessary measures against the sources of aggression.

It also called on the Iraqi government to prevent its territory from being used as a launchpad for attacks against the Kingdom.
