Kuwait: Public prosecution orders detention over deadly fire incident

The Public Prosecution has ordered the provisional detention of a citizen and several expatriates on charges of manslaughter and accidental injury due to negligence in security and safety measures. This action follows a fire in the Al-Mangaf building that resulted in the deaths of 49 expatriates and injuries to 49 others.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has allocated a sum of money for each of the 49 deceased victims. Among the deceased, 45 were Indians. A specialized Indian Air Force plane carrying the mortal remains of Indian nationals from the Kuwait fire incident landed at Cochin International Airport on Friday.

Three Filipinos have been confirmed by the Philippines’ Department of Migrant Workers Undersecretary, Hans Leo Cacdac.

The Accident Investigation Department completed technical inspections, including debris analysis and witness interviews. Their investigation determined that the fire started in the security guard’s room on the ground floor of the six-story building due to an electrical short circuit. This highlights the need for strict adherence to electrical safety protocols to prevent such incidents.

Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousuf conducted an inspection campaign on illegal properties in several areas of Kuwait to ensure compliance with safety and building codes.
