Kingdom believes new 'law of evidence' can boost public faith in Saudi judiciary

Jeddah: The Saudi Arabian administration has approved reforms in the law of evidence targeting the development of the Kingdom's legislative system on Tuesday, Arab News reported.

The Saudi Attorney General Sheikh Saud bin Abdullah Al-Mujib said that the law results from the Kingdom's efforts in developing the judicial system here to preserve rights, justice and public confidence in the Kingdom's judicial system, Saudi Press Agency reported.

Al-Mujib, who is also a Saudi Council of Senior Scholars member, said that the law proves the Saudi administration's intentions to improve its judiciary practices to global standards.

Dr Khalid Mohammed Al-Yousef, president of the Saudi Court of Grievances and head of the Administrative Judiciary Council, said that the reforms would create a favourable legal environment, raising more confidence in it.

Dr Abdulkarim Al-Thiabi of the University of Tabuk said the law aligns with the Kingdom's Vision 2030. The project expects to attract investments, and the new law supports the legislative environment for the project.

He further said that the more the rules of evidence are developed in a legal system, the more the justice serving becomes robust, protecting the rights of all parties. The law of evidence is the foundation of commercial transactions, he added.

The reforms in the law of evidence are among the reforms the Kingdom made in the four rules namely the Personal Status Law, the Civil Transactions Law, and the Penal Code for Discretionary Sanctions, intending to improve the judicial system announced by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman year.
