While on the verge of regime change, President Donald Trump's advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner arrived in Saudi Arabia for the last intervention in the Gulf. Kushner is accompanied by a team of Gulf experts in the Trump administration to hold discussions with the ruling elite, including Qatar.

This awakens a possibility of lifting the blockade imposed by Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt and the UAE (United Arab Emirates) against Qatar alleged for supporting terrorism in 2017.

Qatar was demanded to abandon diplomatic relations with Iran and to halt bustle in the Turkish military base. Qatar, however, denied the allegations and did not accept the demands.

Under the new circumstances, the US wants to strengthen the alliance against Iran in the region. It is in this context that the US is now making hasty moves to resolve the Gulf crisis following the Qatar blockade. The US has intensified its efforts to reach an understanding between the Gulf states and Israel.

After the presidential election, during U.S. State Secretary Mike Pompeo's visit to the Gulf, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman held discussions according to reports.

Although Israel has not fully achieved the goal of securing the consent of the Gulf states, even the slightest progress in the negotiations will be in the interests of Israel and the United States in the region.

Kushner has developed close ties with Gulf leaders, including Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Observers believe that there are commercial interests behind the White House senior adviser's visit of Gulf region and to strengthen ties before handing over power to the Joe Biden-led regime on January 20, 2021
