Explosion hits building in Iran’s Bandar Abbas, cause under investigation

An explosion was reported on Saturday at Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Abbas, with authorities saying the cause of the blast remains unclear.
Iranian state television said the explosion occurred in an eight-storey building on Moallem Boulevard, destroying two floors and damaging several vehicles and nearby shops.
Images broadcast by state media showed the building’s facade blown out, exposing parts of its interior, with debris scattered across the area.
Rescue and firefighting teams were deployed to the site, and emergency services began transferring the injured to hospitals.
The official IRNA news agency quoted Mehrdad Hassanzadeh, director general of crisis management in Hormozgan province, as saying that the cause of the explosion was under investigation. No fatalities were reported.
Other Iranian media outlets carried similar reports, confirming the blast but providing no further details on what triggered it.
The incident occurred at a tense moment for Iran, after the United States deployed an aircraft carrier group to the region following strong rhetoric from President Donald Trump. Iranian army chief Amir Hatami warned against any attack, saying Iran’s forces were at full defensive and military readiness in response to the heavy US military deployments in the Gulf.
Authorities have not linked the explosion to any external action, and officials have not indicated whether it was caused by an accident, technical failure, or any other factor.
