Cairo: Negotiations for a three-day humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, are reportedly underway with the aim of facilitating additional aid, including limited fuel supplies, to alleviate the deteriorating conditions for the 2.3 million Palestinians trapped there.

Reports suggest that details of the deal will be discussed this week in Cairo with the visiting CIA chief and an Israeli delegation as mediators are finalizing a draft deal.

The Biden administration has suggested that Israel consider tying the length of a pause to the release of a certain number of hostages. If an agreement can be reached, the same formula could be revisited for additional pauses and releases, a report said.

A humanitarian ceasefire would allow for the delivery of much-needed aid to Gaza and alleviate the suffering of its residents. It would also provide a brief respite from the violence that has been plaguing the region

The proposed ceasefire would be the first of this kind since Israel began indiscriminate bombardment in Gaza following the Hamas attack on October 7.
