Daesh shooters fire at Iftar meet in Syria; 7 killed & 4 wounded

Beirut: Seven people were dead and four injured in a suspected Daesh (the terror group) attack on a Ramadan Iftar gathering in eastern Syria. The gathering was hosted by a former official of a group backed by the United States of America, Associated Press reported.

The attack happened late on Wednesday, targeted the home of an official of US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the Abu Khashab area in Deir Ezzor province, Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and Euphrates Post informed.

News agency Euphrates Post said that the assaulters, shooters on motorcycles, opened fire at the group who were having Iftar, the meal to break the fast of the day, hosted by SDF spokesperson Nouri Hameesh, who also got killed.

It has been three years since the Daesh had lost the area they had in control, but in recent months, the terror group's sleeper cells have escalated their attacks. They are mainly targeting the Kurdish-led SDF and forces of the Syrian government.

During the heights of Daesh's caliphate, it controlled a third of both Iraq and Syria. War against them lasted many years and killed thousands, and left many parts of both the countries in ruins.
