The government on Monday decided to start distributing the Covid-19 vaccination for age groups 12-13 years and 13-14 years beginning on March 16.

The Hyderabad-based Biological-E company, which manufactures the Corbevax vaccine, will administer the test to the new age group, according to the health ministry.

Corbevax is India's first vaccine against Covid-19 that is based on a Receptor Binding Domain (RBD) Protein subunit.

Biological E's Corbevax was granted emergency use authorization by the India's Drug Controller General on February 21 for the age group of 12-18 years. Under the ongoing vaccination program, the vaccine is already administered to population over 14 years of age.

Covid-19 precaution dose for people aged 60 and older will no longer be conditional on co-morbidity.

Anyone over 60 years of age now qualifies for the precautionary third dose.
