TISS reverses termination orders for over 100 contractual employees

Mumbai: The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has withdrawn termination orders for more than 100 contractual employees across its four campuses.

Initially, the institute issued termination notices to 55 teaching staff and 60 non-teaching staff on June 28, citing a shortage of grant funds from the Tata Education Trust, which had been funding their salaries. The contracts were set to lapse on Sunday.

In a press release on Sunday, TISS announced a positive development regarding the release of funds from the Tata Education Trust. "Ongoing discussions with Tata Education Trust have provided assurance that resources will be made available to TISS to resolve this issue," the institute stated. "TET has committed to releasing funds for the salaries of TET project/programme faculty and non-teaching staff."

As a result of these developments, TISS has withdrawn the termination letters with immediate effect. "The staff members are requested to continue their work, and salaries will be released as soon as the TET Support Grant is received by the institute," TISS announced.
