Kuwait files third ICAO complaint over airport radar attack
text_fieldsKuwait’s Public Authority of Civil Aviation (PACA) has submitted a third official complaint to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) over continued attacks on Kuwait International Airport, including the targeting of the airport’s radar system on Thursday.
In a statement, PACA said the latest attack caused injuries and substantial material damage, affecting radar facilities and equipment used for air traffic management.
The authority said the incident required urgent operational and precautionary measures, including a temporary partial suspension of air navigation to ensure the safety and security of civil aviation operations.
Air traffic was later restored in line with approved procedures and international standards.
In its complaint, PACA said attacks on civil aviation facilities and infrastructure used for air navigation services constitute a serious violation of the Chicago Convention of 1944 and international aviation safety and security regulations.
The authority warned that such incidents place passengers, flight crews and aviation personnel at risk.
Kuwait called on ICAO to document the violations, assess their impact on regional and international air navigation, and take the necessary measures within its mandate.
PACA also reaffirmed that Kuwait reserves all legal rights arising from the attacks, including the right to take appropriate measures under international law and relevant international conventions.
