Non-religious, non-caste to enjoy economic reservation in Kerala

Thrissur: The Kerala government has issued an order to include in economic reservation those calling themselves non-religious or sans any caste.

Revenue director's order regarding this to district collectors has come after two years' of legal fight by Aravind G. Christo hailing from Chittilapalli here.

The order particularly wants officials to be informed of the government's decision.

Aravind submitted a plea for economic reservation certificate (EWS) to Thrissur Taluk official in February 2020, in order to apply for UGC exam.

Tahisil Dar denied him the certificate on the grounds of his SSLC certificate declaring him as a non-religious, hence not deserving the reservation benefits.

His subsequent plaint prompted the government to issue the order.

Aravind, son of Christo and Geetha, is now pursuing PHD in USA.
