MLA P V Anvar joins Trinamool Congress as Kerala state coordinator
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: Kerala legislator P V Anvar, who recently broke away from the CPI(M)-led LDF, has officially joined the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) and assumed the role of state coordinator for its Kerala unit. The announcement came a day after Anvar's formal induction into the Mamata Banerjee-led party.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, Anvar shared that he has taken over as the Kerala state coordinator for the Trinamool Congress. Highlighting the party's political influence, he pointed out that the AITC currently has 40 MPs—12 in the Rajya Sabha and 28 in the Lok Sabha—positioning it to actively influence legislative assemblies and policymaking processes.
Anvar also revealed that during discussions with Trinamool Congress leaders, he advocated for amending the Central Forest and Wildlife Act of 1972 to allow seasonal concessions. He claimed that the party had assured him of their support for this demand.
The MLA, who represents the Nilambur constituency in the Kerala Assembly, is scheduled to return to Kerala on Sunday, January 12.
Anvar's political journey has been marked by significant shifts. Elected as a Left-supported independent candidate in the 2016 and 2021 Assembly elections, he later formed the Democratic Movement of Kerala (DMK) after parting ways with the CPI(M)-led LDF two months ago. The CPI(M) severed ties with him following his open revolt against the ruling front on several issues.
Recently, Anvar faced legal trouble when he was arrested for allegedly vandalizing a forest office during a protest over the death of a tribal man who was fatally attacked by an elephant in his constituency.
With his move to the Trinamool Congress, Anvar is expected to play a key role in the party's efforts to expand its influence in Kerala.
