Maharaja’s student stabs assistant professor on campus, absconds
text_fieldsKochi: A case has been registered against a student of a government college here for allegedly stabbing an Assistant Professor inside the campus following an argument over the suspension of a fellow student, police said on Thursday.
Nizamuddin K M, working as an Assistant Professor with the Research Department of Arabic at Maharaja's College, suffered injuries between his left arm and neck after Mohammed Rashid, a final-year B A Arabic student, allegedly stabbed him with a “sharp weapon.”
According to the complainant, the accused had entered into an argument with him at the Department over the suspension of another student. In a fit of rage, the student stabbed the professor with a sharp object from behind.
Nizamudheen alleged Rashid also threatened to kill him. Nizamudheen, a native of Nilambur, is partially deaf.
He initially filed a complaint with the principal seeking action against the students responsible and ensuring security for him. Later, at other students’ insistence, he filed a complaint with the police.
“I did it after students cutting across political affiliations insisted that I file a complaint. They were afraid that if the student can attack a teacher, they too are not safe,” Nizamudheen said.
The Ernakulam Central police have launched a probe into the matter. Police said the accused is absconding and a manhunt has been launched to nab him.
