KSRTC offers free bus travel for cancer patients across state
text_fieldsThiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has announced a major relief measure for cancer patients, granting them free travel for treatment-related journeys to any hospital within the state.
The initiative follows an earlier announcement by Transport Minister K. B. Ganesh Kumar, who had proposed such a scheme to ease the financial burden on patients.
According to an order issued by KSRTC Chairman and Managing Director Pramoj Sanker on October 29, cancer patients can now travel free of cost on all KSRTC services, from ordinary to superfast buses, for purposes including chemotherapy, radiation, and other treatment-related visits.
Eligible patients must apply for a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) card through the official website keralartcit.com. Applicants are required to upload a passport-size photograph, a copy of their Aadhaar card, proof of residential address, and a certificate issued by a qualified oncologist.
Once the submitted documents are verified by the KSRTC headquarters, the RFID card will be delivered to the applicant’s residence by the respective unit officer, the order stated.
The corporation has also cautioned that if any medical documents submitted are found to be fake, legal action will be taken and the issued card will be cancelled.
Previously, cancer patients travelling to the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) were eligible for a 50 per cent concession on KSRTC’s ordinary and city service buses. The new order now extends free travel benefits across all categories of KSRTC services statewide.
