Kozhikode: Four people have been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a woman in Kerala’s Perambra after intoxicating her and taking her to various locations, including lodges and houses, police said on Saturday.
Officials at the Perambra police station said the survivor, who is a relative of one of the accused, was allegedly given intoxicating substances and taken to different locations, where she was sexually assaulted.
Police said one of the accused allegedly received money for facilitating the assaults, while the incidents were also allegedly recorded on video.
The woman did not file a complaint for a long time as the accused allegedly threatened her. She recently approached the Perambra police station after receiving repeated threats and lodged a complaint.
According to Perambra police Circle Inspector MK Anilkumar, the survivor alleged that she had been forcibly administered alcohol and narcotics before being sexually assaulted at several locations on different occasions over the past two years. One of the accused allegedly filmed the assaults and used the footage to threaten her.
Following the complaint on Friday, Perambra police launched an intensive investigation and conducted a night-long search across multiple locations in the district. The four accused were subsequently arrested from hiding places in Kappad and Mankavu.
The accused have been identified as Jasif of Velliyur, Sakkir Hussain of Karuvannur, and Rejeesh and Abhilash, both from Naduvannur.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Arti S said the accused also include habitual offenders with previous criminal backgrounds.
Rejeesh had previously been booked under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA) and had served a prison sentence for assaulting his father before his release.
Police said preliminary findings indicate the possible involvement of additional suspects and that a comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the full scope of the alleged crime.
