Alappuzha: A young man who posted obscene comments against a nine-year-old boy who died after being hit by a car has been arrested. Cyber police arrested Akash Sashidharan, a native of Sooranad in Kollam.

The accident took place on October 3 in Punnapra, where nine-year-old Muhammad Sahal was killed after being struck by a car. Under a Facebook post that shared news of the accident and the child’s death, the accused had written obscene and hateful comments.

Sahal’s father, Abdul Salam, who was abroad at the time, could not see his son one last time or attend the funeral. After returning home, Abdul Salam saw that someone had posted an obscene comment insulting his son under a friend’s Facebook post about the boy’s death. The family then lodged a complaint with the Punnapra police and the cyber cell.

Police said the accused not only insulted the deceased child but also made comments that could incite communal tension. The cyber police have handed him over to the Punnapra police for further action.
