Kerala University denies permission for Sunny Leone’s dance show

The vice-chancellor of Kerala University has barred Bollywood actor Sunny Leone from performing a dance show at the University College of Engineering campus in Thiruvananthapuram. This decision aligns with a recent directive from the Kerala state government banning external DJ parties and music events on campuses, following several tragic incidents.

Last November, a concert at Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) ended in disaster with a stampede resulting in the deaths of four students and injuries to over 60 others. This prompted the Kerala High Court to cite "some failure" in the event's management, emphasizing that such incidents should not recur.

In response to these events, Kerala University’s vice-chancellor, Dr. Mohanan Kunnummal, instructed the registrar to exclude Leone’s performance from the program list. He highlighted that the university union attempted to organize this event without proper authorization. Firmly, he stated that such programs would not be allowed either on or off campus under the union's name.

The ban reflects a broader concern for student safety and the need for stricter controls over campus events. The state government's decision underscores the importance of preventing similar tragedies in the future.

Sunny Leone, who is slated to appear in an upcoming Malayalam film directed by Pampally, has shared her enthusiasm for the project despite sustaining minor injuries during the muhurat ceremony in April. She was last seen in Anurag Kashyap’s film "Kennedy," showcasing her versatility alongside co-stars Rahul Bhat and Abhilash Thapliyal.
