Kochi: Kerala is currently pressing through a major health crisis as the outbreak of 11 different diseases, which are air, water, mosquito, and mite-borne, affecting more than a lakh of people.

Approximately 1.45 lakh people have sought treatment for various epidemics spreading across the state in government hospitals. The actual count of affected individuals may surge as many more people depend on private hospitals for treatment. The number of people visiting government hospitals per day has surpassed 17,000.

Most people are suffering from the influenza A virus, with districts like Malappuram, Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Thrissur, and Kozhikode encompassing the highest number of cases. Diseases such as jaundice, dengue, and rat fever, caused by the Hepatitis B virus, are also rising to concerning levels. Additionally, the capital city of Thiruvananthapuram is facing a threat from spiking cases of cholera.

The health department has advised children, infants, senior citizens, and individuals with comorbidities to take extra precautions to stay away from these diseases.
