Kerala cop dies after being attacked by history sheeter in Kottayam
text_fieldsKottayam: A civil police officer died after being allegedly assaulted by a notorious history-sheeter in the early hours of Monday, police said.
The deceased, Shyam Prasad, 44, was a civil police officer (police constable) attached to the Kottayam West Police Station.
According to officials, the incident took place at a wayside eatery where the accused, Jibin George, known for his involvement in multiple criminal cases, was allegedly creating a disturbance. Shyam Prasad, who was returning home after his duty hours, noticed the commotion and intervened, questioning Jibin about his behavior. This led to a violent altercation, during which the accused allegedly launched a brutal attack on the officer.
Following the assault, Shyam Prasad collapsed at the scene. Bystanders immediately rushed him to a nearby private hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he was declared dead.
A patrolling team, led by the Kumarakom Station House Officer (SHO), arrived at the spot shortly after the incident. Upon spotting the police, Jibin George attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended.
Police confirmed that Jibin has been taken into custody. His arrest will be formally recorded, and he will be produced before the court soon, officials added.
