Kerala BJP youth leader arrested for assault on live-in partner
text_fieldsKochi: Police in Kerala on Friday arrested Gopu Paramasivan, Ernakulam district general secretary of the BJP’s youth wing, Yuva Morcha, on charges of assaulting his live-in partner.
Investigators said the two had been living together in a rented house since May 2021. The incident occurred on Thursday when the woman moved Paramasivan’s helmet from an ironing table to the floor. Police allege that the act enraged him, leading to a violent attack in which he attempted to choke her with an electric cable.
Following the assault, the woman left the residence. Paramasivan later filed a missing-person complaint, but police traced her and recorded her statement. Based on her account, officers summoned Paramasivan to the station, where his arrest was formally registered.
Maradu police, under Kochi city limits, charged him under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 109(1) (attempt to murder), Section 74 (assault or use of criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), Section 115(2) (causing hurt), and Section 118(1) (causing hurt with a dangerous weapon).
The woman told police she had endured torture by Paramasivan for the past four years. The FIR also records his resentment over a period when she reportedly stayed with her husband and children for nearly a week.
