Kollam: A man was brutally murdered inside his house in the Karunagappally area of this southern Kerala district on Thursday morning, with police suspecting past enmity as the motive behind the crime.

The victim, identified as Santhosh from Thachayilmukku, was accused in an attempted murder case. According to police, the assailants hurled explosives at the house before forcing their way in. They then brutally hacked him to death and allegedly broke his leg.

At the time of the attack, only Santhosh and his mother were present at home. The body has been taken to the hospital for further procedures, police said.

Following the murder, the gang allegedly attacked a young man named Aneer in Vavvakavu, Ochira. The assault took place in front of a small roadside eatery, leaving Aneer with serious injuries. He was admitted to Alappuzha Medical College for treatment.

Police suspect the two incidents are connected and are investigating further.
