Fraternity Movement announces statewide agitation against crackdown on student protests

Kozhikode: Youth organisation, Fraternity Movement State President Naeem Gafoor has announced that the organisation will hold protests across Kerala against the government's brutal suppression of student protests in the national capital and that the Union government's actions have jeopardised the future of millions of students across the country.

Delhi Police resorted to a lathi charge and fired tear gas shells during the Parliament march organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which was held to raise issues concerning students' educational rights nationwide. Several student leaders who participated in the march were assaulted and arrested by the police, while around 70 students were taken into custody.

Delhi Police also lathi-charged and arrested several student leaders and protesters, including Fraternity Movement National General Secretary Mohammed Alfauz, Delhi University Unit President Ahammed Rabeeh, and others. They were released only after a considerable delay.

He further alleged that Fraternity Movement National President Ramees E.K. was also manhandled by the police.

To express solidarity with the student movement and protest against what he termed police brutality in Delhi, the Fraternity Movement will organise district- and campus-level demonstrations across Kerala on July 21 and 22. A march to Lok Bhavan has been planned in Thiruvananthapuram, while street night vigils and symbolic "Jantar Mantars" will be organised in other districts and campuses.

Gafoor also said the Fraternity Movement would intensify its protests against the Hindutva-driven saffronisation of the education sector by the Sangh Parivar-led government and the denial of justice to students.
