Kochi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has asked UAE-based businessman MA Yusuf Ali to appear at its Kochi office to record his statement in connection with the Life Mission case.

Yusuf Ali, who runs the famed retailer Lulu mall in the Middle East and elsewhere, was served the notice by ED a few days after Swapna Suresh, the prime accused in gold smuggling and LIFE Mission cases, made some allegations.

He has been asked to appear at the Kochi office of ED on March 16, Thursday, against the backdrop of a Rs 300 crore transaction between Kerala's LIFE Mission Project and some private companies in UAE.

Swapna Suresh is back in limelight again after she came live on Facebook recently, alleging that she was offered money on behalf of Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) to hand over evidences in her possession.

She claimed that she was offered the money to relocate herself in north India or abroad.

“I was also told that UAE-settled billionaire Malayali businessmen MA Yusuf Ali and Ravi Pillai have also been served a notice to appear before the Enforcement Directorate," Swapna reportedly said.

The LIFE Mission case is about the alleged violation of foreign contribution regulations in the Kerala government's flagship project to provide homes to the poor who lost their houses to evastating floods of 2018.

The case came to fore after the gold smuggling case rocked the state in June 2020. Subsequently, Swapna Suresh and Sarith, employed in the UAE Consulate were allegedly found to have link to the Life Mission funds misappropriation.
