New Delhi: The Delhi Police requested a court here to issue an order to register a case against Kerala legislator KT Jaleel in a controversial 'Azad Kashmir' remark. The Rouse Avenue District Court has scheduled a hearing of the case next Monday.

Jaleel's Facebook post after returning from Kashmiri has been seen as highly contentious. In the post, Jalil described the area that India refers to Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir as 'Azad Kashmir'. This was seen as problematic as these were the terms used by Pakistan supporters. Jaleel further stated that Kashmir was divided into two during the partition.

Jaleel withdrew the Facebook post after the controversies intensified. He stated that his post has been misinterpreting against what he had intended. The post was later taken down for the good of the country and to strengthen the friendship between the people, he said.

Supreme Court lawyer GS Mani lodged a case against Jaleel at the Tilak Marg Police Station for his problematic Facebook post in which he used the terms "Indian-Occupied Kashmir" and "Azad Kashmir." However, Tilak Marg police were not ready to register the case which prompted GS Mani to file a complaint with the Delhi Police Commissioner demanding the arrest of Jaleel.
