text_fieldsThamarassery: Teachers were shocked after checking the bag of a Class 10 student and finding half a litre of illicit liquor inside. The liquor was recovered from the bag of a minor student at a government school in the hilly region. During questioning, the student stated that another classmate had placed it in the bag.
A teacher had earlier suspected that an SSLC student was bringing illicit liquor to school. A confidential tip revealed that the student had brought liquor to school three times and that around six students had consumed it. Following this, teachers checked the student’s bag when the child was away and found the liquor.
During the questioning of the two students, it was revealed that a person named Ramesh (40), a resident of Chamal Kelenmoola, had supplied the liquor. In a search conducted by Thamarassery Police at his house and nearby areas, police seized 56 bottles containing half a litre each, totalling 28 litres of illicit liquor. Another 28 litres of liquor were also recovered from a rubber plantation.
The liquor was seized from two sacks kept in a rubber plantation at Kattippara Chamal Kelenmoola, under the jurisdiction of Thamarassery Police Station. The student who brought the liquor to school and the student who kept it in the bag were produced before the Juvenile Court for illegally possessing and handling illicit liquor and bringing it into the school.
Thamarassery Police registered a case against Ramesh under the Abkari Act. The liquor was found stored in the rubber plantation near his house. Police said the illicit liquor was produced elsewhere and stored at the location. Ramesh is currently absconding, police added.
The team that carried out the inspection and seized the liquor included Principal Sub Inspector Gautham Hari, Sub Inspectors V. K. Razak, P. P. Muhammad Ashiq, Bins Joseph, Assistant Sub Inspectors Sreejith and Shaini, Senior Civil Police Officer Sreelesh, Civil Police Officer Sabu, Women Civil Police Officer Ambili Ratna, and Jamshina.
