Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said that 151 new coronavirus cases were reported in the state.

Of these, 86 had come from abroad, 51 returnees from within the country, and 13 local infectees. One person who died a few days back had since tested positive.

"At present 1,87,219 people are under observation at homes and corona care centres, including 2,831 in hospitals. Now, the state has 2,130 active cases. The total corona positive cases are 4,593," said Vijayan.

Vijayan said since May 7 till June 30, 870 flights and three ships brought 1,43,147 people from abroad.

"Of these 52 per cent have lost their jobs. We have also now given sanction for 1,543 flights in all. Everyone who wishes to come can return. Our diaspora has long been the backbone of our economy and the diaspora deposits in our bank is around Rs 1,69,944 crore," said Vijayan.

Vijayan said the state is going ahead with "Dream Kerala" project to help rehabilitate returning diaspora.

"Ideas are being sought and an expert committee will review various ideas and those selected will be implemented," said Vijayan.

As for corruption allegations by Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala regarding the e-bus project, Vijayan said these were "baseless".

"A person of his stature should level allegations with responsibility. This project has not even reached the stage of inking of an MoU. But we are not going to be cowed down by these allegations," the Chief Minister said.
