JugJugg Jeeyo collects over Rs 36 crore in its opening weekend
text_fieldsVarun Dhawan and Kiara Advani starrer JugJugg Jeeyo had a decent first week at the box office and grossed Rs 36.93 crore. The comedy-drama's family entertainer nature is working in its favour.
The film earned Rs 9.28 crore on day one, Rs 12.55 crore on day two, and followed it up with Rs 15.10 crore on day three. Dharma Productions tweeted the good news and wrote: "Pyaar aapka satrang da! It's blessings galore at the box office, thank you for all the love! #JugJuggJeeyo".
Before the release, director Raj Mehta had admitted that he is nervous as films with a similar vibe haven't been doing well at the box office recently. He said some say the time for such films is over. The filmmaker stated that no one knows what is going to work and it adds to the anxiety.
The plot follows a Punjabi family dealing with two divorces at once amid a typical Bollywood-style wedding. It is being hailed as a progressive take on modern-day relationships. It stars Varun Dhawan, Anil Kapoor, Kiara Advani, Neetu Kapoor, Maniesh Paul, and Prajakta Koli.
It has registered the fourth-best opening weekend collection amongst all Hindi films of 2022. Anayalist Taran Adarsh tweeted that three films that opened better are Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (Rs 55.95 cr), Samrat Prithviraj (Rs 39.40 cr), and Gangubai Jathiwadi (Rs 39.12 cr). He added that while this is a positive sign, the movie needs to maintain a strong grip on Day 4.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Gangubai Kathowadi fared well at the box office later on as well. But, Samrat Prithviraj saw disappointing numbers.
