Hawaii: There is no end to the fiery ribbon of molten lava flowing from Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii, it seems.

Because a study by US geologists warns that the eruption could continue for months, or even years, reports The Guardian, UK.

Since the boiling cauldron started spilling out on 3 May, at least 712 homes have been destroyed, and thousands of residents have been relocated.

Unlike previous eruptions, larger volume of lava is bursting forth from Kilauea’s lava reservoir through a single giant crack known as fissure 8.

According to US report, if the eruptions maintains its ‘current style of activity’ it would take months or years to normalise the situation.

More areas could come under the radar risk if lava detours from its current itinerary.

Lava is now flowing from 40 km down Kilauea’s eastern side, much like it did in previous eruptions of 1840, 1955 and 1960. The latest eruption could become the longest in its recorded history, the study said.
