Woman who accused UP MP of rape gets arrest warrant in forgery case

Lucknow: The 24-year-old woman who accused BSP MP Atul Rai of sexually assaulting her is facing an investigation for forgery. A local court in Varanasi has issued a non-bailable warrant against her in the forgery case.

The warrant was issued on the basis of a complaint filed by Rai's brother. He alleged that the woman had forged documents to hide her date of birth, reported NDTV.

MP Rai's brother, Pawan Kumar said that the high school mark sheets the victim produced in 2015, when she registered a case against a student leader, shows her date of birth as March 10, 1997. But in 2019, when she filed the rape case against MP Atul Rai, the date of birth was changed to June 10, 1997.

The police registered the FIR under IPC sections 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc), 468 (purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy). Her associate is also charged with the same sections.

The police registered the forgery case on the court's directive. The non-bailable warrant was sought because the woman was untraceable despite several raids, said Station House Officer (Varanasi Cantonment Police Station) Rakesh Kumar Singh.

Sub-Inspector Girja Shankar, the Investigating Officer in the forgery case, said that the forgery charges are being investigated, and the police are looking for the woman.

MP Atul Rai has been in jail since June 2019 in connection with the same case.
