Mumbai: In a dramatic turn of events today, Bombay High Court put on hold the bail moments after it was granted to former Home Minister and Nationalist Congress Party leader Anil Deshmukh in a corruption case.

Earlier in the day the court granted bail to the senior leader in the case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation, making the order effective after ten days.

In the morning when the case was considered, CBI sought time to challenge the bail in the Supreme Court.

The 71-year-old appealed for bail as soon as the Bombay High Court granted him bail on October 4 in a money laundering case filed against him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Back then, the court rejected his plea, according to NDTV.

Arrested on November 2, 2021, the NCP leader, who had a coronary angiography in October at a hospital, has since been in judicial custody.

Anil Deshmukh came to face the case in 2021 after senior IPS officer Param Bir Singh accused him of tasking police officers to collect ₹ 100 crore per month from restaurants and bars in Mumbai.

Deshmukh, the then Home Minister, according to ED collected ₹ 4.70 crore from several bars and restaurants in Mumbai through police officer Sachin Waze.

On November 18, a special court in Mumbai granted bail to Sachin Waze in the case which Deshmukh is fighting now.

Waze, being an accused in other cases including the bomb scare case, and murder of business man Mansukh Hiran, did not get out of jail.

Sanjay Raut, senior leader of the Shiv Sena's Uddhav Thackeray faction who was granted bail last month, claimed after coming out of jail that Anil Deshmukh was not in good health in jail.
