Will blast Masjids: Kasargod Police arrests man over hate content

Kasaragod: Kerala Police arrested two people from the northern district of Kasaragod in cases of spreading hate on social media. The arrestees were Kelugudde resident Ajesh and Kumabala resident Siddhik. Both posted threat posts on social media following the court acquitting the accused in the Riyas Moulavi murder case, Manorama reported.

Ajesh threatened through a social media post that bombs would be placed in Masjids in the district, and they would be blasted. Police have registered a case against him, scrutinized the Facebook and Instagram accounts that posted the threat and found that Ajeesh was behind them. After this, they arrested Ajeesh.

The second instance of hate content was also related to Riyas Moulavi's murder case. Following the court verdict, the second arrestee, Siddique, wrote on social media that Muslim youths must take the initiative to take the heads of the three accused who were acquitted by the court.

Town police gathered evidence with the help of a cyber cell in both cases, and both accused were produced before a court and remanded.

A madrassa teacher, Riyas Moulavi, was allegedly hacked to death inside the premises of Muhayuddin Juma masjid of Choori by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) workers on March 20, 2017. A special investigation team arrested three people two days after the murder, charging them with then IPC sections including 449 (house trespass), 302 (murder), 153A (promoting enmity on the ground of religion), 295 (defiling a place of worship), 201 (destruction of evidence) r/w 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

However, on March 30, 2024, the Judicial First Class Magistrate court in Kasaragod acquitted all three, noting that the prosecution was not able to prove that the accused had any kind of enmity with the Muslim community.
