Vote rigging in Gujarat too; 30,000 fake votes in one constituency
text_fieldsAhmedabad: Congress in Gujarat has alleged that vote rigging happened in Gujarat’s Navsari, allowing 30,000 fake votes to be cast in the Lok Sabha constituency. Congress accused the BJP of widespread voter list manipulation in the constituency, from where Union minister CR Patil, who is also the BJP state president, was elected, reports The New Indian Express.
Gujarat Congress president Amit Chavda said that his team has found 30,000 fake voters from Navsari alone and warned that if the poll process in the entire state is probed, the number of bogus votes will reach 62 lakh. He said that the BJP believes a commanding victory is nothing less than vote theft. He promised that Congress would launch a statewide campaign to save democracy.
TNIE quoted Chavda, “We checked Navsari’s electoral rolls and found 30,000 fake voters. If this happens in one seat, what could be happening across Gujarat?”
He continued that if 12.3 per cent fake votes were detected in one constituency, what would be the situation in the entire state.
“Gujarat has 5.06 crore voters. At least 62 lakh fake voters will come to light if we fully investigate,” he claimed.
He said that vote rigging in the state must have happened through duplicate voters, misspelt names, multiple EPIC card numbers, address changes and language alterations.
He made his revelations with documents sourced from the Election Commission website.
Recently, a video has surfaced on social media in which a voter's roll from Maharashtra’s Malegaon could be seen displayed on a large screen for scrutiny, and among the voters was one Muhammed Ebrahim with a photo of Marvel Comics villain Thanos. Also, Rahul Gandhi, who stood strong in revealing irregularities in the voters' list in some past elections, including the Lok Sabha polls in 2024, shared the video captioning “New voter unlocked for BJP”.
