In a meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu enquired about the well-being of Indian students in war-torn Ukraine and suggested that proactive measures be taken to bring them home safely.

Naidu's interaction with Jaishankar was reported by the Vice President's Secretariat in a tweet following a Russian offensive against Ukraine.

"He suggested taking proactive measures to bring all of them safely back to India," it read.

Official sources have stated that the government is attempting to evacuate Indian nationals from Ukraine through its land border crossings with its neighbors, and the nationals will then be returned to their home countries.

According to Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, there are around 20,000 Indians in Ukraine, of which nearly 4,000 have returned to India in recent days.
