Uddhav Thackeray back in as editor of Samna, attacks NCP, Mamata Banerjee
text_fieldsMumbai: Shiv Sena's mouthpiece Samna in its latest editorial attacked NCP, an alliance partner in Uddhav government, for not joining the nationwide protest called by the Congress against inflation last week.
The article said the role of Opposition leaders is questionable and worrying for democracy as voice is suppressed even on burning issues like inflation and unemployment.
The op-ed coincided with Uddhav Thackeray's taking over from the Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut as the chief editor of the publication.
Raut has been doing time in jail following his arrest by ED in the Patra Chawl case.
The op-ed called Opposition leaders' missing of the agitation "worrisome" for democracy at a time when the Centre is chasing leaders of Opposition parties using ED and CBI, according to India Today.
The piece praised Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi for leading the protests and added that Shiv Sena protested equally aggressively over ED action against Sanjay Raut.
The Shiv Sena attacked West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee for the first time, saying the TMC had not voted in the Vice-Presidential election over trivial reason.
The article said that political action of ED and CBI increased in Bengal.
Urging Opposition to unit, the op-ed said the BJP's strength lies in the disintegration of the Opposition.
