Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has decided to consider the demand raised by various Hindu religious groups in regard to renaming a ritual started by Tipu Sultan.

'Salaam Aarati' will likely be replaced with 'Aarati Namaskara' through a circular that is expected to be issued to all temples as suggested by the Shashikala Jolle, Minister for Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments.

The decision is said to have been taken at the meeting of the Karnataka Dharmika Parishat which wanted the state government to put an end to the Hindu religious ritual held in the name of Tipu Sultan.

The Parishat said that the ritual that has been held so far for the welfare of state administration would henceforth be conducted for the welfare of the people.

The ritual was conducted in the famous temples of Puttur, Subramanya, Kollur, Melkote, and others in the then-Mysuru kingdom.

For the BJP and its government in Karnataka, Tipu Sultan was an anti-Hindu ruler who used to kill, pillage temples and force Hindus to convert, but the Congress holds him a "valiant hero" and "patriot" who lost his life resisting the British.
